I just took this to Harlow Gardens. It is reminiscent of my original pieces, very primitive. My husband and I both like the first ones I did and it seems to be an effort to keep from tarting them up so much. This one is unique in that it has a star in it. Most Southwest art has a sun in it and a lot of mine has a sun in them.
I drove around Tucson today, trying to find someone to sell something to. It wasn't too fruitful, that's for sure! As long as you keep the windows up, it doesn't seem so bad, but once you stop to go in somewhere,Yikes! I made a lot of calls and even did some cold calling, but man, you really can't get blood from a stone. Everywhere you go, others are talking about how slow it is and how there is no business to be had. Just try staying up and perky with all that going on! I called a bunch of folks from weeks gone by and tried to get them to order stuff they talked about then, but it is not something they seem to be in a hurry to do. Well, at least my husband made the dinner today. That's something, I guess!
You know it is all true. Dealing with the Army, (Air Force, Marines, Reserves,Navy (probably) ), is not an easy thing to do! You make a contact, you call them, go see them, provide them with everything they may need in the event they just have to order something when you're not there. You call back three weeks later, "What? He's gone? Transferred out to where?" And so it goes. You get the next guy or woman in the job and you start all over. In the meantime, they know they aren't going to be there long so they hem and haw around, finally transferring out to avoid making too many commitments! Then all of a sudden, you get a call, all your hard work is not in vain, after all! You spoke to them before but hadn't even thought of them for awhile and suddenly, they just have to have 4 dozen screwdrivers or something. Something only you have! See, that is just to keep you string along. So you don't give up on them! Or maybe, the last guy left your card or catalog laying around, someone new comes along and calls you up and wants a big long list of stuff! So far, that is just a pipe dream, but I know it could happen, any day now! Eye-yi-yi! What a way to live.
"As a liberal Democrat, no, strike that. As an American citizen and voter, do you approve of the President's health care overhaul?
"I don't know, it's all too complicated." is not an answer."
As a right wing Republican, strike that. As an American citizen, you must know that something has to be done. The years and years of doing nothing have made the country a very scary place to get sick in. It costs me $40 bucks for a co-pay on a very good insurance plan, to see a specialist. Forty fucking bucks! That is, or should be, a crime! The lobbyists employed by the insurance companies, the pharmceutical companies and others have made our lives hell, with absolutely no one on the look out for the people. We have to have someone who is strong enough to get past this. Lead, follow or get the hell out of the way! Where is the Republican plan? Nowhere and it never will exist because they are so far into the pockets of the lobbyists. Big money begets big money, after all. Don't get me wrong, I know that Democrats love to buddy up to the lobbyists, too. It's just that they have a chance this time out to do something for the American people and someone with a conscience and the ability to get something done. Reading stupid emails from ignorant racists all day long will not help us out of this problem, so try to keep that to a minimum, if possible. It's not "too complicated" for me, I know we're getting the shit end of the medical stick now, something has to go forward or it can only get worse. I'm sure you haven't seen anything but propaganda about this program but here are the three things he is striving for:
Reduce Costs — Rising health care costs are crushing the budgets of governments, businesses, individuals and families and they must be brought under control
Guarantee Choice — Every American must have the freedom to choose their plan and doctor – including the choice of a public insurance option
Ensure Quality Care for All — All Americans must have quality and affordable health care
It's at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Japan. The main tank called the 'Kuroshio Sea' holds 7,500-cubic metres (1,981,290 gallons) of water and features the world's second largest acrylic glass panel, measuring 8.2 metres by 22.5 metres with a thickness of 60 centimetres. As seen on Nothing to Do with Arborath.
Up until now, I've been pretty optimistic about the state of the economy here in Arizona. I should probably generalize a bit more and say the state of the economy in the United States. The things I sell are very necessary to anyone who is fixing things. The worse the economy gets, the more that gets repaired, as opposed to being replaced. Theoretically anyway. The slow down has made it so that the city, county and state workers are in such bad shape that they can't even buy nuts and bolts to hold their equipment together. It is a terrible thing to see and you all know, maybe from your college years or the early years of your career, that neglected vehicles & buildings now mean falling apart things later. Remember putting off oil changes or repairs and the consequences later? I stopped in at an Arizona Dept. of Transportation out station awhile ago and the guy told me they couldn't buy a can of paint if they needed one. Some of the sales people who have been doing this for a long time may be in better shape but having started this only last February, I am in short supply of buying customers. I think a good base might get me over this rough patch but I really don't have enough regulars to enable me to continue the battle. It is a numbers game, that is what it boils down to, and they aren't there right now. I suppose one might think that non governmental accounts might fill in. Well, maybe, if they had any money, that would work out fine. So because our nasty, little non-elected Republican governor thinks it's funny to hold up the budget, we will all suffer in the long run. I guess she didn't get enough attention as a child and this is a sure way to get some air time. Sad, isn't it? The economy of the state is being held up by people who just want some attention. Clean it up, folks... let's get it going, before the whole state is driven into more layoffs and poor maintenance for all the expensive things already purchased. All we need is a big bridge falling down, like that one in Minnesota. Maintenance is key to our infrastructure, all across the country.
Looking at the thermometer on my wall, I see that it was 110 degrees today. I never noticed because I stayed inside all day and it didn't look so hot out the window. That's one way to deal with it, I guess. Tucson can get hot, alright, but I like to hide from it as much as possible. Now that I live in the hot zone, I don't wait and wait for summer to come, like I did in Colorado. Nothing better than the beginning of the good weather in Denver. I dread the summer here and seems like I find myself swearing that I'm going to move before the next one hits. But I never do. My animals live the life of French poodles, year in and year out, hiding inside in the air conditioned bliss. I know lots of animals aren't so fortunate in these hot climates. I feel for them and I try to never focus on them, as a whole or individually. I can't take that kind of emotion. My husband works hard in the hot weather, like he does all year long and I feel sorry for him when it gets this bad. Life goes on, I guess and this weather is part of the deal. Nine months or so every year, Tucson is pretty heavenly, woe be unto us for the other three! And what is weird is how you sort of forget how bad it really is until it hits again. DOn't count on any regular outdoor activity here, unless you get up at 5:00 a.m. That would be smart, but as the oldsters used to say, "The mind is willing, but the flesh is weak" and I just can't climb out so early. So, if I don't have to work, here on these dog days, I may never go outside. That is something I've never done, spend two whole days inside the house. No hunting, no gathering. Just hiding.
I used to take pictures of little red haired kids, when I was younger. I guess I thought they were the cutest ones out there. Somehow, I gave it up. Maybe I just didn't get out as much, to places where there were little kids. Anyway, here is the cutest one I've seen in awhile, she walked right up to us. Do you think she could look much happier? Click for a bigger.
I hear the Republicans whining about how,"We don't need to rush into anything here". I want to scream at that! How many years do we need to bat this around and talk about it, debate it and do nothing? And that's in the Democratic years. When the Republicans are in office there aren't even any discussions about it. The politicians, as usual, do whatever they want and leave the rest of us hanging. Maybe we should start rioting in the streets, demanding the same health care that they have. That would set them back a bit, wouldn't it? Everything that is being discussed in congress and the house now is being thrown out as unnecessary and a spending boondoggle, while the truth is that if we don't get with it, our chances of change may vaporize. The Republicans may take awhile, but they will reorganize and we will get stuck with more of their miserable administrations. The horrible things that the right wing radio and TV personalities are putting out there make me want to shriek. It wouldn't affect me so much if so many people didn't send them along in emails and quote these moronic things as facts. There can be no discounting how many folks are open to such bashing, such racism and such bullshit. While we have come a long, long way by electing such a forward thinking man to office, he can be stymied with the normal Bologna of D.C. unless he is very, very careful. What a waste that would be.
