Yesterday, I went to my nurse practitioner with all of my piles of evidence about adrenal fatigue. She is a fabulous caregiver and she agreed with me on the whole subject. Evaluating my last blood test, she allowed as how trying some drugs for thyroid would be a good step. She hadn't started me on this medicine before because, while my number was elevated on the blood test, it wasn't over the top. Since I have been reading up on this stuff though, I learned that the blood test given is not as effective as the saliva test. So I may have a serious thyroid problem and a serious adrenal problem but the insurance companies will only pay for a blood test. So if I hadn't been studying the whole situation, I would never have even questioned the results. I am hopeful that this drug, which several in my family take, will be helpful. I also got some supplements labeled as Adrenal Support and I started on them as well. There are certain herbs that are good to support healthy adrenal function. These include:Rhodiola rosea,Ashwagandha, Holy Basil and Schizandra Berry. I was taking some of these things separately but I think it is better to have some sort of measure to the herbs and supplements I'm tossing down. The product I tried is Gaia Herbs Adrenal Health. I'll post more as the weeks go on, reporting on any progress. I feel like I made some progress on my health issues this week. When I first started figuring this out, I tried to just alter my eating habits but I think this addition will be more beneficial, over all.
Women to Women has a great program for adrenal fatigue, http://www.womentowomen.com/adrenalhealth/default.aspx They advocate for 24-hour saliva testing. If your own doc won't order it, they have labs where anyone can call and have testing.

I've had next to no luck with my mainstream health care provider, but do like this site, womentowomen.com. You can do phone consultations with NP or visit the clinic if you live in Maine. They do natural supplements and diet changes for AF.
